Update and New Interview

Chuck While resting, gathering steam, and considering my future podcasting plans, I was contacted by Dumbass of the Invisible Sky Monster podcast to join in on a roundtable discussion on a host of issues pertinent to the skeptical and atheist communities. Give it a listen.

I’m pretty much settled on providing a fair and balanced review of Kirk Hastings’ “What is Truth?” for the next and final (?) Irreligiosophy podcast. I have randomly selected Hovindologist Matt Wakefield out of an infinite array of possible co-hosts; fortunately his expertise in Hovindology qualifies him to tackle nearly the exact same “arguments” from Kirk. Look for that podcast to pop up in the next few weeks.

Probably Maybe the Last Episode: Dan Barker

Irreligiosophy Although listening to it I’d hate to go out this way. It’s basically a beta version of the Loftus interview. I’m a huge fan of Dan Barker, but I seem less engaged in this one even though it was done way back in February. Leighton actually has a clue who Barker is since I loaned him my copy of Losing Faith in Faith in preparation for the E4F debate, but he’s still Leighton.

I need a break. But I am toying around with the idea of doing another episode gently critiquing Kirk Hasting’s magnum opus What is Truth? (since I’ve already finished half of the work on it) maybe with expert Hovindologist Matt Wakefield as cohost. That might be a more fitting exit for Irreligiosophy than a poorly-done interview — although come to think of it, poorly-done interviews are what we’re known for.

No matter what happens, the site and existing podcasts will remain up and available.

I Surrender

Chuck I have been flooded with requests to re-enable the donate button to allow people to send the site some money. I feel bad about that, I didn’t mean to turn the end of Irreligiosophy into some sort of cash drive. But I also have to say that I’m touched. I honestly had no idea how much this podcast meant to some of you until I got hammered by all the emails and comments over the last two days.

So I’m going to acquiesce and put a donate button back on the site for the time being. But I’m also going to do something for you all. There is one episode of Irreligiosophy left, an interview we did back in February with Dan Barker of the Freedom from Religion Foundation. I don’t think it’s one of our best interviews (which means it may well be one of our worst shows), but hey, it’s done and just needs to be edited. So I’ll break out the audio program one last time.

Seriously, all of you. Thanks.

109: It Is Finished

Irreligiosophy Episode 109 will be the last Irreligiosophy episode. I’m tired, the business failed (spectacularly), Leighton quit midstream and despite his many promises to pay his share, left me holding the bag for all of the debts we incurred. So I’ll be very busy over the next two to three years working hard to pay those back.

I appreciate everything our listeners have done for us, from all of the feedback (both good and bad), to putting up with our shenanigans and even donating your hard-earned cash to support the site. Thank you very much.

Perhaps Irreligiosophy will return some day, like a skeptical King Arthur in the time of atheism’s greatest need. Or maybe like that other fictional character Jesus, we’ll just keep threatening to come back and never actually do it.
