Last week a gay couple was physically restrained in handcuffs for an inappropriate public display of lewdness at the LDS Temple grounds by LDS security guards until Salt Lake City Police arrived and issued citations for criminal trespass. The grounds for handcuffing? A peck on the cheek.

We discuss the hypocrisy of LDS temple authorities in this week’s ANN.

  1. This is amazingly terrible, Once again the church showing their homophobia, I am ashamed at the backing up of this attitude by our public servants as well who simply could have escorted them out of the area. Additionally, where do ‘security guards’ get this kind of authority? I would sure them for assault, and the church except that with their massive resources they would crush any lawsuits and those who bring them like something small and buzzy. Like a kind of bug or something. those things on shit.

  2. Its strange,,,when adults display their affection for others it is a good and positive thing.Children learn from example. What does this teach a child if they were to wittness this ?
Brings to mind the original “free hug” you-tube thing. Maybe do this at the temple grounds.

  3. Leighton says:

You both may be interested to discover that a large group of homosexuals lined up on the same spot the other two were accosted and at a designated time hugged and kissed one another. I haven’t heard what became of it, but as I understand it they will continue to do this every Sunday until the LDS church comes out with an apology for their actions. As well, there was a statement put forth that if they were arrested for their actions they would do everything in their power to get an entire movement going.

I believe it was us here at Irreligiosophy that suggested this first.

  4. ah yes, the kiss in! The first one went without incident, the second one had protesters yelling at the kissers. Protesting for hate, that’s so christ like.

  5. I was talking with my grandmother about this today and she said that the part of St. Street that is owned by the church was actually blocked off and completely restricted for public access… How recockulous can these people get?

  6. Hmm,,Protesters protesting the protesters.
One group kissing and showing free love and freedom of expression. The other waving and jeering against the expression.
Guess I was wrong ,,even the free hug thing would have the same effect.Seems to me its all been done before man I mean why cant we just all like love each other man (draw a peace sign on check ,,and grow some sideburns and or a mullet)
    Nope …nothing for it.
