Due to literally overwhelming negative feedback and consternation, you will be pleased to hear that we will not be recording any more episodes of The Second Law. We were asked to help Leighton and Chuck out, but it seems our time and effort was anything but helpful.
To those who gave us some encouragement and were willing to give us a go, thank you. To those who used words such as “horrible”, “an abomination”, “shit” and “horrendous” (amongst other words I will not repeat here) to describe our first attempt at putting an episode together, I guess we are sorry you didn’t like it, and fuck you.
Apart from our voices and accents (which we can’t change), no one really specified what made our first show so awful. Please don’t tell us now – we’ve had about as much feedback as we can take! It’s a shame because we had fun recording it and were looking forward to doing more until it became evident that it wasn’t worth it.
Anyway, at least we tried, but it didn’t work out how we hoped. Shit happens.
We’ll see you on the forum.

Haha. Imaging Emma in a catholic school girl skirt is better than most episodes of this podcast. Yes, keep it going Emphatically, yes. And fuck you, too.
I’m hoping Moggie’s last post means they will indeed do another show. It was a good first show and if you guys just keep at it, work out some of the technical bugs it’ll get even better. By the way, I thought Moggie’s Crucifix-buying anecdote was fucking hilarious. “Do you want the one with the little man on it?” Fucking adorable.
You know, if you don’t act butt-hurt, saying “I’m not butt-hurt” will have more impact.
Emma, you have to realise that the medium of podcasting is as much about the voices as it is the content. Your bogan voice is one thing, but couple that with the matching butch attitude you have on the podcast, and it really makes for a personality that I can’t find it within myself to like.
You might think this is all unrelated, but it isn’t. You can’t expect people to listen to people they find detestable and enjoy it as well. I just really don’t like your podcast persona, sorry.
I don’t like all the forced laughing or laughing at every single thing that’s not even funny – it works for leighton and chuck, but not for you guys.
I also didn’t like the unnecessary bullshit biography at the start, it wasn’t funny at all – I just wanted to get into the meat of the podcast.
The best bits about the podcast was when both of you were being yourselves, and unlike some, I enjoy the tangents and unnecessary anecdotes as they tell us something about you guys. If both of you were to just relax and have a conversation, as opposed to trying to live up to the humor of the irreligiosophy podcast; then I would be much more inclined to listen to the podcast.
If you actually enjoyed making the podcast then why did you stop? What’s stopping you from making your own podcast that’s not on this website? Just post an announcement once and a link to the podcast so listeners can decide if they want to listen to it.
I also find it surprising that you guys can’t take criticism and ridicule, given that you listen to Irreligiosophy.
Hez, don’t be surprised.
We all have personal areas where we don’t appreciate ridicule, even though we would find it hilarious if it was about someone else. Try making fun of Chuck’s wife and see what happens.
Granted, it’s a bit contraproductive to be sensitive about yourself if you’re going to be doing a podcast, but everyone is human. Which of course is the reason everyone sucks.
I think it would be contraproductive for me to post any more responses here, so I’m going to direct all my efforts to 2L episode 3 instead. See you there 🙂
@Mr Structure Fire
So you listened to the podcast and had no idea at first what was going on? My immediate reaction was that this was a guest host pod cast and the guest host was giving a joke intro. If you were lost from the beginning, it could just mean you are a dumbass.
The haters don’t have to listen. I liked it! And if we were to judge podcasts on the basis of their first episodes, there aren’t many that would pass muster.
I loved it! Real people talking about things that interest me. Don’t stop!
@Mr James
While I never rule out the possibility of my being a dumbass, I believe my point was misunderstood. I surmised it was a guest podcast when it wasn’t the standard icon, theme, or voices of Irreligiosophy. What I meant to say was that the ball doesn’t getting rolling for a very long time. In any kind of storytelling it is best to have a clear opening that sets the tone and orients the audience. To quote Shakespeare “brevity is the soul of whit” this essentially means “get to the point”. In visual media like film, for example, there is generally what’s called an “establishment shot” when you see the outside and maybe a national monument/landmark to give you the setting. The episode did not properly establish what it was.
The more long-winded jokes belong in the body of the story, after the characters have been introduced.
@James
And before you say “but that was the intro joke, you can’t
Move it.” the gag is ok, but it was still far too long. It isn’t just iPod generation attention spans that can’t digest an intro like this. No reasonable attention span could.
There are unwritten rules that entertainers have to follow, like people can only listen to one person talk for so long . (ex. Skeptoid episodes are about 7 minutes) once you get two people, you can go for about an hour or two, ( like Irrelig eps are between 45 & 90 minutes), before the audience lose interest. More people talking doesn’t necessarily mean better.
(most podcasts don’t have more than three or four people) Most SGU episodes have 4 people talking.
The intro could have worked if it had been about 40 seconds. Then you should get into the content and follow some kind of clear format.
Shallow and pedantic. That may apply in a typical film or story, there is plenty of room for variation and complete rejection of conventions. This is a podcast and has no conventions to follow.
No need to antagonize, ol’ chum.
I would say you are half right. I am certainly not saying that all stories should be the same, but if a teller strays too far from “conventional” wisdom, then it will almost certainly fail to engage the audience. There is no reason to assume that podcasts are immune.
If things like pacing are ignored, then the story will either fail to hook or fail to maintain interest.
And, of course, I am speaking generally.
Hmmmm … yes …. shallow and pedantic.
Family Guy FTW.
I think that you need your own style of show, or even just your own feed. I really liked the intro.
It could just be the relationship you 2 have together is missing some dynamic. Look at the Ricky Gervais podcast. They are just 3 people who talk about shit and are the most popular podcast in the world, but they work because of the dynamic between the 3 of them. And Carl is beyond belief. Maybe you need to have a believer as a third member of the team to be your Carl. I don’t know if you can find someone thick skinned enough, especially if you are as insulting as Ricky is to Carl.
Don’t give up. Skepticality is up to over 150 episodes and it’s still shit.
Amen to that ptah. Skepticality sucks ass.
But seriously guys, I liked it. And the intro, epic.
Regardless if your personal reasons for stopping the hatemongers will take credit I think u were a little intimidated by chuck and leighton and almost subconciously tried to emulate them because they are your point if reference I say don’t give up but figure out your own still , for irreligiosophy it seems caustic intellectual sarcasm is the way to go whereas the athirst experince it’s intellectual incredulity both podcasts different yet relevant in the same field , so to all who don’t like u guys they have the option to not listen , also for those who talked about voice and accent get a fucking life
@Irishatheist
Maybe you should put away the Jameson and Guiness when you type.
Quiet u petulant child
Ha but on reflection I do see what u mean , I think iPod keyboards were made for midgets and autocorrect is a bastard , oh well
@Irishatheist
I figured you were using an iPod/iPhone keyboard
It’s not that I don’t like Emma & Joe, but Irreligiosophy isn’t what it is without Chuck and Leyton.
WHEN I SIGNED UP IRRELIGIOSOPHY I ONLY WANTED TO LISTEN TO MORMONS. NOT THIS.
Pervert
I liked it and I hope you are serious about doing more.
Why are people so retarded about this. “You can’t expect people to listen to someone they find detestable. Also, y u no liek criticism?” You’d think people thought they were actually paying for this to be produced.
So, if you are free you don’t have to be good?
See this is what I mean by confusing brands…by now we’d have multiple comments from addicted Irreligiosophites clammoring for the next podcast. But people come to this site and see a post for 2L and….nothing….
ptah, it means it doesn’t have to conform to your tastes.
Moewicus, that would be true even if people paid for it. But you didn’t answer my question.
I think use of the words “irreligiosophy brand” delays the podcast another day. ;;
Hey, all you Fuck-nuts. It’s been what… a month since C&L posted a podcast? Meanwhile we get SOMETHING (ANYTHING) to listen to and all most of you can do it piss and moan. Fuck every last one of you. You want to blame someone? Blame Chuck & Leighton.
As for Emma & Joe, I listened. It was ok. I’m just sick and tired of browsing here looking for a podcast and not finding one. Either shit or get off the pot!
C&L, a month off is pushing it. Come on! 100 podcasts and you go on hiatus? WTF… you’re both “skunk-dicks” till episode 105 at least.
Ok the lame Q&A episode 2 weeks ago notwithstanding. Seemed like longer but something is better than nothing.
I liked the new show. I felt the narrative was a bit weak, but I think it takes a bit of experience to really develop. It’s unreasonable to expect two newbies to fill C&L’s shoes on the first try. I hope you reconsider and do another episode. You inarticulate haters are all skunkdicks!
@mabell
So are us, the articulate haters, not skunk dicks?
You guys need to take some advice from your mentors and have the attitude of fuck you fan month. Fuck anyone that doesn’t like it, they can choose not to listen. You have a different style and that is a good thing. Plus the logo is awesome, those guys from the debate are just endless material.
By the way that pussy that was taking about you being butch is probably a closet Christian. A woman talking probably offended him.
Hahahhah. Keep kicking ass,
Ahuman
Chuck and Leighton, or Emma and Joe haven’t put out a podcast Since March 28 and that makes me a sad Panda. (It also makes me a sad Panda that Emma and Joe got discouraged, it was a great first effort)
Go back and listen to the first Skeptics Guide to the Universe, it sucked. Now it’s one of the best and most popular. Don’t let these sandy vaginas discourage you
Guyz, we’re already working on Episode 3. Thanks for the words of encouragement. =D
I enjoyed the show myself.
Yeah, hey, keep em coming or be counted as chicken shit
Oh crap I got the accent wrong. OK then: Annoying fucking accents, whatever the nationality!
Wouldn’t want to be racist now.
Am I the only one who can’t find this episode?
