Interview with Becky Garrison

In this podcast we sit and discuss the differing views between our atheistic ways and Becky Garrison’s belief in Christianity. We applaud Christians like Becky and their forward views of religion.

Prologue

  1. Becky Garrison is the Senior Contributing Writer of The Wittenburg door.
  2. Has written three books with another in her editor’s hands and has been involved with two documentaries.

Main Story

  1. How far can you push before blasphemy is punishable beneath God’s view? Becky expresses her views and explains the boundaries of blasphemy.
  2. Certain lifestyles (Homosexuality, etc.) the basis of some unchristian behavior. No real mention of homosexuality until Paul wherein they could be later submissions.
  3. Jesus possibly a proto-feminist. Speculation concerning what Jesus would look down on, the Prayer Breakfast being one of them, TBN studios, etc.
  4. Some intellectuals search out Jesus, but wind up finding the Jesus that fits their beliefs. Becky looks to the Living Christ. Doesn’t like to focus on 2nd coming, but would rather focus on making ourselves better here rather than looking constantly to the hereafter.
  5. Becky’s conversion: raised Episcopalian, fell away for a time, always searching for something, and then as an adult settled back into the Episcopalian church.
  6. Francis Collins was walking and noticed a waterfall frozen in three parts and decided this was a representation of the Trinity, another example of the fight between rationality and irrationality, but brings up the subject of miracles in the bible and miracles of the modern day.
  7. The problem of evil and whether or not Ground Zero(9/11) in New York was a human response or if God had his hand in the cleanup.

Epilogue

  1. Addendum added by Becky concerning the martyrdom conversation:

“When the discussion turned to martyrdom, I confess, I wasn’t up for a faith fight. Enough blood has been shed by post-Constantinian Christians that I don’t want to add  yet another biblical battle. However, it should be noted that in the Book of Acts recorded Stephen as the first official martyr, an act that occurred while the disciples were still alive (except for Judas of course).  Also it is documented that these disciples were all killed using some rather gruesome techniques that would put Stephen King to shame no to mention the atrocities done to the Apostle Paul. So, even before Origen got into the act, martyrdom was the fate of many who chose to worship Christ rather then the Emperor. But rather than nit-pick over bible bits where not even Christians come to a universal consensus, I’d rather focus the energies on seeking out those areas such as the environment where we can all work together for a common good.”
