Podcast Summary, Episode #5: Atheist News Roundup

Atheist News Roundup

This week we discuss Pope Benedict’s thoughts on conscientious objections by pharmacists, Rick Warren’s inaugural prayer, and Glenn Beck’s take on the “Moment of Silence” decision in Illinois.

Prologue

  1. Charley, as a physician himself, has many objections to the Pope’s ideas on pharmacy while I, if this was ever put into practice, would begin diagnosing myself rather than go through conscientious objections.
  2. Rick Warren’s foolish/outrageous statements during his inaugural prayer have us raising eyebrows.
  3. Glenn Beck once more proves to us that his idea of doing research is to hear something and spout his own ideas and concepts. So much for a differing opinion.

Main Story

  1. Pharmacists able to use their own judgement on ethics for distributing contraceptives, etc. Would this be the first step? Where would it lead? Physicians are in a fiduciary relationship. Period.
  2. The obligations of a physician/pharmacist’s responsibility is to give all of the options and their expert opinion. The physician/pharmacist’s conscience is not the issue.
  3. Rick Warren is not the right candidate for such a weighty focal point in the history of the United States. A clergyman that represents Obama’s forward thinking would have been more conducive.
  4. Why does God, or Satan for that matter, care about something so insignificant as the human species? Are God and Satan co-equal in power? Is Rick Warren’s nonsense proof there is no God?
  5. Due to the amount of “research” Glenn Beck does on his stories, more than likely he heard the story from his wife and developed his “research” off of their closed discussions. Just where is he getting his figures from? Where is his constitutional lawyer to discuss the reasons why this “Moment of Silence” is a bad idea?
  6. If this nation is a gift of God and his laws and rights are given to us from Him, where in the constitution does it even mention God?
  7. The teachers within our schools should be teaching and not stopping the education of our children, those who will run our county, to have a “Moment of Silence”.
  8. Silent Reflection and Student Prayer Act: Which sect of religions are going to be allowed where this is concerned? Are there going to be moments when students can throw down their prayer mats during this time and pray towards Mecca?
  9. If our rights come from God why are there still lingering problems where ours, and others, civil rights are being violated?

Epilogue

  1. Next week we will allow Charley to stand up to some of the issues revolving around Evolution, Intelligent Design and religion.
