It’s that time again

[chuck]Whenever the choice is between putting out a mediocre podcast and putting out none at all, we choose the lazy way out and take the week off.

So we’ll see you next week with what we hope is a decent podcast. In the meantime, listener and Irreligiosophy Apostle Emma has sent us the “Irreligiosophy Drinking Game.” Enjoy getting stupid drunk while listening to old episodes.

61: Islam, Part Dos

[irrelig]So having dispensed with the historical backdrop of 7th century Arabia, we finish our (randomly-timed, not influenced by South Park at all) two-parter with a discussion of the Quran itself, crazy Islamic beliefs, and the status of women in Islam.

If you thought part one was crazy, get ready for multi-horned bovines standing on fish, propping up the earth and resting on angels with thousands of hands tipped with thousands of fingers, each a stinging serpent. Oh, and invisible genies. Give it a listen here.

60: Islam, Part One

[irrelig]In answer to your prayers, the One True Podcast discusses Islam in a special two-parter. The first part covers the historical backdrop of Muhammad and 7th century Arabia, as well as the “Five Pillars of Islam,” all in a manner you’ve become accustomed to from the hard-working staff at Irreligiosophy.

Plus, we talk about this week’s candidates for the Mims Carter Skunk Dick of the Week Award and our mention by Skepticality‘s Swoopy on a recent Double Meat podcast. Get it while it’s hot, right here.

59: The Dead Sea Scrolls

[irrelig]This week, for a little change of pace, we delve into the topic of the Dead Sea Scrolls, a group of documents uncovered during the late 40s and early 50s in the Qumran area near the Dead Sea. We talk about how these manuscripts, which lay hidden for centuries, were finally discovered, who wrote them, and why. The discussion that follows briefly covers the Community Rule scroll, the Damascus Document, the Halakhic Letter, and the War Scroll, and we also touch on the intersection between the Qumran Community and early Christianity.

Also, the Mims Carter Skunk Dick of the week returns, and we cover some recent reviews that highlight Leighton’s stupidity. Check it all out here.

58: Ethics without God

[irrelig]Hey, and it’s even on time! In this episode we discuss the possibility of ethics independent of God or religion with Dominick Cancilla, author of Ask Yourself to Be Moral and developer of an innovative God-free system of ethics that revolves around two simple questions. What follows is the usual wide-ranging discussion on ethics, philosophy, religion, and slapping babies.

Check it out here.

57: More Chick Tracts

[irrelig]Well, it’s finally up so now I can get some real sleep. In this episode, we cover 3 more Chick Tracts, all sent in by our audience since our Thai child passed on during our absence: “Oops,” a “tract for blacks,” “Fairy Tales,” about a poor little boy screwed up by his horrific upbringing, and “The Last Generation,” an accurate prognostication about the “near future” apocalypse as told by the Bible and interpreted by our intrepid scribe, Jack T. Chick.

Check it out here. Me, I’m off to bed and hope to wake up sometime next week.

And we’re back!

[chuck]Okay, we’re back from our 6 day road trip and tired as hell. But we know you all have been without a podcast for 2 weeks, so here’s what we’ll do: we’re going to do another Jack Chick episode and we already have one slot filled with a tract called “Oops.” We’d like to discuss 2 more, so we’ll open the floor to our audience.

Leave suggestions for your favorite Chick tracts in the comments, and we’ll choose two from that pool and record the podcast tonight. I’ll try to get it edited and out some time late tonight, and then I’ll crash and sleep the sleep of the damned, hopefully until I actually am damned.

Apologies

[chuck]We tried to get a podcast out today, but between working 10 out of the last 10 days, Leighton’s school work, and gearing up for the Haunt Convention in St. Louis, we failed. We will try to get one out by the end of the week, pending internet access at the hotel (we’ll be driving pretty much the next 2 days straight).

If you’re looking around for someone to blame, blame Pakhdi. He’s so damn hungry he can’t even write.

56: Mormon Temple Ceremony

[irrelig]Walk through the LDS Temple without going to the trouble of getting baptized, attending church, and paying tithing to an organization that regularly discriminates against minority members of society. Want to know the secret handshake and fraternal passwords that get you into Mormon heaven?

Guests Chris and Mike give us their own personal experiences and walk us through it, step by bizarre step. Listen here.
